Toronado’s True Serendipity impresses at the two-year-old trials

    September 18, 2018

Swettenham Stud’s flashy black Enzed Girl colt by Toronado indeed turned heads at the Inglis Premier sale and now named, True Serendipity, he again turned more heads with an impressive debut in the two-year-old colt and gelding trial over 800 metres at Cranbourne this week.

Bred by loyal and long-term clients Lyn Armanasco and John Dickson, Swettenham’s Sam Matthews remembered the hugely popular colt being a complete professional during parades and handled the pressure with aplomb.

“He has had an incredible temperament since the day he was born, which is consistent with the Toronado progeny. He was a striking yearling with his four white socks and was a crowd favourite at Premier, so much so that Racing.com ran a very successful story on him,” Matthews said.

“We are so excited for Toronado and True Serendipity’s breeders, John & Lyn, and being such a forward type and we cannot wait to see him on the track for the early two-year-old races.”

Trained by Matt Cumani, he was delighted how the colt handled the busy environment and performed on the track, demonstrating that he is an early prospect for the spring.

“I thought that he trialled extremely well, and I was happy with his whole approach to the day; he was nice and relaxed, and I don’t think he could have gone much better.”

“We will let him take improvement from that gallop and give him three weeks to mature further before his next jump out.  I suspect he will be a precocious type that we will look at targeting the Inglis races with.” Cumani said.

Cumani enthused that True Serendipity is well equipped with all the ingredients required to handle the pressure of juvenile racing.

“He is flashy and strong, with a great stride on him and fortunately blessed with a super attitude. He behaved beautifully at Cranbourne, he didn’t put a foot wrong and was a great advertisement for his sire.”

A $160,000 purchased by Yulong Investments at the 2018 Inglis Premier Sale, Yulong’s Racing Manager, Sam Pritchard–Gordon commented that Mr Zhang was very pleased to have secured the standout colt and is looking forward to an exciting spring ahead.

“Mr Zhang likes the Toronados as a breed very much, and he was particularly fond of this colt. Yulong is passionate about the Victorian thoroughbred industry, and being Victorian bred, that gives Mr Zhang the confidence to bid knowing that he can take full advantage of the lucrative Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold incentives,” Pritchard-Gordon said.

“I think Matt is doing a brilliant job and has him very well educated. It’s exciting, as he has the Inglis races ahead of him this season and could be a VOBIS Sires horse next preparation. Additionally, we would be delighted to see True Serendipity become one of the many early representatives of Toronado for Swettenham Stud.”
