Pure Elation about a Toronado little brother

    October 10, 2017

It’s terribly exciting to cheer home your racehorse as an owner, but it is also a stirring and proud moment to see the next generation of youngsters commence their careers on the track.

For the large group of owners that were involved with the talented grey filly, Members Joy, she has become the perfect example to encourage owners to continue their involvement in breeding and selling thoroughbreds after their successful racetrack career.

With her first daughter, Pure Elation beginning her racing journey, she brings together everyone that was involved from the start and offers all, a new opportunity to enjoy the ride.

Stepping out at the recent Warwick Farm trials, the filly trained by Peter and Paul Snowden showed good pace out of the gates to find the lead, and although travelling three wide, she powered to the line under Michael Walker to win by more than two lengths.

“She has shown solid improvement since her first trial last month, when she finished fourth. We were happy for her first trial to be soft, a chance for her to gain some experience. We didn’t want to put her under too much pressure.  She had to step it up this time though, and when asked, she handled the question very nicely.”

Swettenham Stud prepared the eye-catching grey filly for the 2016 Inglis Premier Sales, and being incredibly popular during inspection days at the Inglis complex, she did not disappoint in the ring being the highest priced filly, knocked down to Paul Moroney Bloodstock for $320,000.

A two-time Group 2 runner up, and listed winner, Member’s Joy is now a proud mum again with an outstanding early Toronado colt foaled on the 25th August this year.

Destined to run, not only does he carry his mum’s fast two-year-old winning pedigree, he will be blessed with his dads speed, being the fastest son of High Chaparral.

The excitement Toronado is generating overseas with his first yearlings going through the ring is a fabulous confidence booster for Australian breeders.

Stamping his stunning looks onto each of his yearlings, and bringing his exceptional pedigree and proven racetrack performances to the mix, it is no wonder the astute buyers have been paying generous amounts to secure a Toronado youngster.

With his median yearling price an incredible A$175,000, being nine times his current service fee, it gives breeders tremendous confidence that Toronado will produce his own precocious Group winners and black-type success stories.

The top-priced Toronado was sold at Tattersalls UK on Day 1 out of the Dansili mare, Raskutani (GB) to Godolphin for an notable 325Kgns (A$549, 0000), with other good results with the Toronado x Lily Link, a sister to Group 1 winner Redwood selling for 100,000gns and the yearling out of Group 3 winning dam, Rose Blossom from the Lofts Hall Stud draft for 125,000gns.

Toronado will be very well represented at all the major Australian yearling sales next year with strong numbers currently entered.

At the January Magic Millions Sale on the Gold Coast there will be no fewer than 25 Toronado yearlings, and impressively up to 40 yearlings at Inglis Premier in Melbourne.

But the cream of the crop, and showing the substance, quality and correctness of the yearlings he has on the ground, 18 youngsters are entered for the elite Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

Following on the Swettenham tradition of providing breeders with highly sort after and proven international and Australian pedigrees at an affordable price, Al Shaqab Racing are allowing discounts to approved mares in his third season at stud.
