    Sweet Graduate for Swettenham Stud

    May 16, 2017

Brent Stanley’s faith in Sweet Sherry has been rewarded after the talented filly won a tough battle to claim the Group 2 $500,000 Euclase Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday.

The daughter of Sun Stud’s Bel Esprit was bred by Swettenham Stud’s long term and loyal client Steve Lester at the famed Nagambie farm.

Brian Gorman, Operations Manager at Swettenham Stud, is thrilled to have another highly successful graduate raised at the farm.

Gorman remembers the filly as a stand out of Swettenham’s 2015 Inglis Premier Sale draft that turned the heads of many good yearling buyers.

“She was an outstanding individual – spoken by many as one of the best yearlings at that sale, and it is not a surprise that she is doing what she is doing.” Gorman said.

“It gives us a great deal of satisfaction to act as agent for these clients and get such impressive results for them.”

Sweet Sherry is now a triple stakes winning filly, with a debut win in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at Flemington and in the Listed Crockett Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley.

Stanley who bought the filly for owner Steve Gillard for $260,000 at the 2015 Premier Sale was thrilled with the big Adelaide win.“It’s a great feeling. She’s always shown us she’s had a lot of ability…she’s just had a lot of bad luck along the way,” he said.“I’ve always said she’s a Group One horse — and she’s only going to get better.”The filly’s race record now includes four wins and a third from 12 starts with earnings of $653,300.Sweet Sherry is a half-sister to the multiple Group 2 winner Arinosa (Dash for Cash) and the talented multiple city winner Onerous (Dash for Cash). A full brother to these two, now named Andaz, was sold for $150,000 at last year’s Premier Sale and is in training with Chris Waller. They are all foals of Steve Lester’s stakes-placed Revoque mare, Amoroso.
