High Chaparral’s legacy is in safe hands with his Group 1 winning son Toronado (Ire) at Swettenham Stud.
October 11, 2016
“He is the most precocious son of High Chaparral and looks the perfect horse for Australia,” renowned bloodstock agent John Warren said on a recent visit to Nagambie. “High Chaparral is emerging as a major influence and one of the biggest attractions for Toronado is his compatibility with Danzig line mares in Australia."
Unbeaten at two and a champion miler at three, Toronado trained on at four with a brilliant performance to win the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes (1600m) in a time faster than the mighty Frankel.
“I’ve never gone as fast over a mile at Royal Ascot,” jockey Richard Hughes declared. “We were going a five or six-furlong pace!”
High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells) was taken all too soon in December 2014, nevertheless, his stud record continues to improve with Wine Bush becoming his 86th individual black-type winner in the LR Super Impose Stakes at Flemington earlier this month.
He has sired 16 Group 1 winners and, all up, over 1700 races at a 61% strike-rate. Apart from Toronado, his other elite level sire-sons include Hunter Valley based So You Think (Coolmore) and Dundeel (Arrowfield).
Toronado (Ire) covered 174 mares in his initial southern book at a $22,000 (inc gst) service fee and there are limited spots still available this year.
