Black-type Miss by Master of Design
October 9, 2016
Master Of Design sired stakes filly Kinetic Design first-up at Flemington 12 months ago and there was more black-type to kick-start his second crop at Caulfield on Saturday.
Swettenham Stud’s Group 1 stallion unearthed another filly with potential when Miss Wahoo finished third on debut in the LR Debutant Stakes (1000m). The Tony McEvoy-trained youngster was a long way from the leaders on the corner and was doing her best work in the final stages.
“She ran really well,” jockey Kerrin McEvoy said. “The speed was quick and she stayed on nicely.”
Swettenham-bred colt Valliano was placed in the 2015 Debutant Stakes and he went on to claim Super VOBIS Horse of the Year honours following wins in the $250,000 Inglis 2YO Premier and $280,000 VOBIS Gold Ingot.
Miss Wahoo was bred by Kon Papanicolaou and sold for $45,000 at this year’s Inglis Classic Sale. Her NZ-bred dam Fish Dive (Pins) was originally owned by Patinack Farm before transferring to Victoria in 2012. She was covered by Swettenham sire Americain last year.
Artistic Design, a high-priced Master Of Design colt, was due to make his debut on Sunday before the Cranbourne Cup was postponed. He’s a half-brother to Swettenham’s Group 1 winner Trust In A Gust and cost Lee Freedman $300,000 at the 2015 Melbourne Premier.
Annie’s Shiraz is another Master Of Design ready to get her career underway after a winning trial at Devonport. The Barry Campbell trained filly is from a half-sister to Group 1 star Juggler and is entered for Race 1 at Launceston on Wednesday.
Swettenham stands Master Of Design (Redoute’s Choice) for a $15,000 (inc gst) service fee.
