Toronado a Safe selection in Victoria

The first Australian mares offered in foal to Toronado (Ire) sold up to $170,000 in Sydney this week.
The Inglis Sale results would have pleased breeders who sent their mares to the Swettenham Stud shuttler at a $22,000 (inc gst) fee in 2015.
Top of the leader-board was More Than Ready mare Moretti who was purchased by China Horse Club from Swettenham owner Adam Sangster. She is a five year-old half-sister to Group 1 winner Bentley Biscuit and the dam of Hong Kong Group 1 miler Khaya.
Victorian based agents Damon Gabbedy and Sheamus Mills also paid $80,000 on behalf of clients for Swettenham mares Safe and Dalaniwave (Ire) who are both positive to Toronado.
Safe (Strategic) was a speedy Group 3 placed filly for Sheikh Mohammed and her first foal Unbreakable (Hard Spun) is a last-start Caulfield winner with a Group 1 nominations for the South Australian Derby and Queensland Derby.
It was Safe’s second trip to the Inglis Broodmare Sale in the space of twelve months. Sangster bought her from Darley for $22,000 last year and, as an added bonus, he has a Domesday colt on the ground at Nagambie.
Dalaniwave (Dalakhani) is a half-sister to LR Epsom Woodcote Stakes winner Screwdriver. She retired last year after winning four times around the Victorian provincial circuit and Toronado stopped her first-up with a September 7 cover.
Toronado (High Chaparral) will remain at a $22,000 (inc gst) fee for his second southern book at Swettenham in 2016.
