Spring campaign for Sweet Sherry
Golden Slipper surprise-packet Sweet Sherry has been sent for a spell and will return for a spring campaign in Melbourne.
The Swettenham Stud graduate defied cricket-score odds to kick clear at the furlong in the Golden Slipper.
She let down despite having led into a headwind with no cover and was brave to the line in seventh spot.
Bendigo trainer Brent Stanley won the LR Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington with Sweet Sherry in October and sent the Bel Esprit filly to Sydney for a shot at the stumps in the Golden Slipper.
Owner Steve Gillard agreed to tip her out and miss the Sydney Sires’ Produce Stakes. She’s a big, strong filly and will keep furnishing into a lovely three year-old.
Swettenham Stud owner Adam Sangster bred and sold Sweet Sherry for $260,000 at the 2015 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale. Her older half-sister Arinosa kept progressing with maturity – she was rated Australia’s most improved filly three years ago after rocketing through the grades to win at Group 2 level in the Premiere Stakes and Sapphire Stakes at Randwick.
