Trust In A Gust will miss the Victorian spring carnival after scans revealed the Group 1 winning sprinter-miler requires surgery to remove a bone chip from his stifle.
Trainer Darren Weir believes the stallion aggravated an injury sustained back in May when he was being loaded on a flight to Brisbane for the G1 Stradbroke Hcp. “It didn’t show up in the original x-rays but he wasn’t 100% after that unplaced run first-up in the Aurie’s Star at Flemington,” Weir said. “It’s a straightforward operation and I’m just glad we’ve been able to get to the bottom of the problem.”
Trust In A Gust (5h Keep The Faith – Subtle Breeze by Storm Cat) had been scheduled to serve his first book of mares at Swettenham Stud this year but it was decided to give him another season on the track to add more feature wins to his Group 1 double in the Sir Rupert Clark Stakes and Toorak Hcp.
“He’s a horse with so much ability and we should be able to bring him back for the autumn carnivals,” Weir predicted. “He would have needed the operation whether he was racing or standing at stud.”
Trust In A Gust was bred by Swettenham owner Adam Sangster he will join the Stud’s roster in 2016.
