Royal appointment for Toronado
May 8, 2015
Swettenham Stud shuttler Toronado paraded for The Queen during a tour of the English National Stud this week.
"Her Majesty saw their wonderful new stallion Toronado,” racing manager John Warren said. “The Queen was delighted to visit the National Stud and planted a tree to mark 100 years since its inception.”
The Queen inspected all five sires at the English National Stud during the visit with Chairman Ben Sangster and Managing Director Brian O’Rourke.
Toronado (Ire) is finishing his first northern book before shuttling to Swettenham Stud in August. Racing for Sheikh Joaan, he was an undefeated Group 2 winning two-year-old and went on to win the G1 Sussex Stakes and G1 Queen Anne Stakes in faster times than Frankel.
“Toronado will really appeal to the commercial market,” Warren said. “Looking closely at both his pedigree and conformation he is hugely exciting. Being by the international leading sire High Chaparral out of a mare from the Gone West line he looks perfect for a wide range of mares including those who descend from the Danzig line.”
Swettenham Stud will stand Toronado for a service fee of $22,000 (inc gst).
