Solar Flair shines for Equiano
He sat handily in behind the leaders and quickened up nicely to score by a length from China Club (Shamardal). “It was a good performance,” trainer William Knight said. “He had been training very well earlier in the year but picked up an injury in the summer. He has shown a really professional attitude as well as plenty of ability.”
Solar Flair was knocked down for 25,000gns (AUD 40,425) at the 2012 Tattersalls Foal Sale. He is the second winner from two to race out of Air Biscuit (Galileo). She is a half-sister to French Group 3 winner Ziria and her only other foal to race has been Sheikh Mohammed’s Irish winner Warbird (Royal Applause).
Equiano shuttles to Swettenham Stud and there have been 16 individual winners from his initial crop in Europe this year. His latest winner is based at Knight’s historic Angmering Park estate which covers 6,750 acres in West Sussex.
The late Lady Herries sent out a host of winners from Angmering Park including Sheriff’s Star (1989 Coronation Cup) and Celtic Swing (1995 French Derby). She also trained Taufan’s Melody to a controversial victory in the 1998 Caulfield Cup.
Celtic Swing shuttled to Collingrove Stud in Nagambie before the property was rebranded Swettenham Stud by Adam Sangster in 2005.
