Anna Dana With Foal at Foot By Soldier's Tale An astute purchase by Swettenham Stud's Adam Sangster of a close relation to both Street Cry and Shamardal looks certain to boost the stud careers of freshman sires Soldiers Tale and Kaphero.
The two standout stallions this Spring have surely been the Street Cry the sire of Melbourne Cup winner Shocking and Shamardal the sire of Faint Perfume winner of the VRC Oaks.
Street Cry is a multiple Group 1 winning stallion by Machiavellian from the Group 1 winning Troy mare Helen Street and is currently the leading Australian sire this season.
Shamardal, a multiple Group 1 winning stallion, is by Giant's Causeway from Helsinki who is a stakes placed full sister to Street Cry.
Therefore it comes as no surprise that in Kentucky yesterday Vin Cox Bloodstock paid US$735,000 for Lot 101 Tears I Cry a mare closely related to both standout stallions and in foal to 2009 Horse of the Year Curlin.
Tears I Cry is a stakes winner by Chester House from Mount Helena. Mount Helena is by Danzig from Helen Street making her a half-sister to both Street Cry and Helinski.
Swettenham Stud purchased a full sister to Tears I Cry, Anna Dana, in 2008 and she is pictured with a filly foal at foot by Soldiers Tale (at 6 days old). Anna Dana has recently been served (20/09/09) and been confirmed in foal to Kaphero.
With strong bloodlines like this Anna Dana is sure to give both Kaphero and Soldier's Tale, Swettenham Stud's youngest stallions, an enormous kick start to their careers at stud.
