Beautifully bred mare Hidden Energy went close to giving the Adam Sangster the thrill of a lifetime when she beat all but Bel Mer in Saturday's Group One Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville. A home bred daughter of Dehere, Hidden Energy produced a career best performance to rattle home in the straight in the Australia's premier fillies and mares dash. Only the Bel Esprit mare Bel Mer, who earlier in her career was Group One placed to reigning Horse of the Year Weekend Hussler, was able to beat home Hidden Energy. In her previous 11 starts Hidden Energy had shown plenty of ability with wins in Melbourne and Adelaide as well as a second placing in the listed Vamos Stakes in Tasmania. As her record currently stands, the promising mare has already earned over $110,000. Hidden Energy, by Deputy Minister's Group One winning son Dehere, is from a former star mare raced and owned by the Sangster family's Swettenham Stud operation. Kapchat, the mare in question, earned over half a million dollars during an illustrious career that peaked with a win in the Group One Winfield Classic in Sydney. While proving herself as a star galloper, Kapchat has turned out to be a grand producer - with no fewer than five of her progeny having earned black type. Aside from Hidden Energy, Kapchat is the dam of the the multiple stakes winning and Group One performed sprinter Kaphero, multiple stakes winner Princesa and the stakes performed duo Keeneland and Wasimah. Kapchat's last yearling bred by Swettenham Stud recently made over a million dollars at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast and will join the David Hayes stable.
