Berlioz, the SA Derby bound winner of Saturday's listed VRC St Leger (2800m) at Flemington, is yet another stakes winner produced by Swettenham Stud. A member of the David Hayes stable, Berlioz followed up his last start close up second placing in the Group One WA Derby with his strong St Leger win over Precedence. Hayes will now send the Zabeel colt over to his home state of South Australia for that state's blue riband next Saturday. Bred by Swettenham Stud, Berlioz is one of two winners from two runners for the winning and city placed Slavic mare Jervaux. Another of Jervaux's daughters, the unraced Octagonal mare Decani, has a lovely chestnut colt by Swettenham's Sunday Silence's stakes winning son Keep the Faith catalogued for the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale. Set to have his turn in the ring as lot number 1610, the chestnut colt is the first foal of his well related dam. Jervaux is a half sister to six winners including the Group Two winning Woodman mare Taimana. Taimana herself is catalogued, after a spring visit to champion sire Redoute's Choice, for the National Broodmare Sale. One of the highlight lots of the auction, Taimana won two stakes races in Melbourne, but her feature victory came in New Zealand, in the Group Two Concorde Stakes at Avondale. Jervaux was one of the mares sold in last year's Swettenham dispersal. She was purchased by Beamish Bloodstock for $230,000 and is now owned by breeder WJ Gleeson. Last year she was served by Rock Of Gibraltar before being exported to New Zealand.
