Sayahailmary yesterday won one of the biggest 2YO races in the Albury-Wodonga area when she ran out a comfortable winner of the Jack Maher Classic $22,500 over 1200m at Wodonga. The Keep The Faith 2YO filly from the very successful Peter Moody stable ran as the pronounced 3/1 favourite. She jumped well from the barriers and settled on the outside of the leader and was travelling very well within herself throughout. She shook off the leader at the 250 mark and scooted for home and was never troubled winning by about a length and a half. The highlight was her effortless cruising speed; that suggests 1400m will suit even more. After a debut 6th at MV over 4 months ago when she never got into a rhythm over the 1000m this was a much more polished performance at her 2nd career start. Bred and raced by Mrs. R. Whyllie from Western Australia, Sayahailmary is from the Danehill mare Danish Moon and is a half-sister to the Group 2 placed Viking Turf Belle the winner of $227,769 with 6 race wins all in the city and 4 at Moonee Valley. In fact the mare Danish Moon has now had 5 to race for 5 winners with Sayahailmary certainly appearing to be the best since Viking Turf Belle. Danish Moon a modest Ballarat winner at a mile is very well bred especially when you go back to her grandam who is a three-quarter-sister to CHERCHEUR D'OR, half-sister to RIVIERE D'OR (dam of GOLD SPLASH and also the dam of GOLDIKOVA, GOLD SOUND, etc), GOLDNEYEV. Mrs. Whyllie’s loyalty to Swettenham Stud has meant she has a rising 2YO filly by Dash For Cash and a rising yearling bay colt in the first crop of the much talked about champion Hussonet stallion Host as the next two progeny from this well bred mare. The race contained some extremely expensively bred 2YO fillies and colts. Commiserations to the connections of the Choisir, Bel Esprit, Testa Rossa, Elvstroem, Charge Forward and Statue of Liberty 2YO's left in her wake. This win on the back of two other impressive placings by Keep The Faith stock last week at Geelong and Morphettville suggests that bookings to this very impressive stallion are about to sky rocket. At an advertised fee of $10,500 incl GST it is not hard to imagine Keep The Faith getting a serious book again in his fourth season. (IR)
