Hold That Tiger
Hold That Tiger
Hold That Tiger’s COY CAT produced a tough grinding performance to win the Turfway Park Holiday Inaugural Stakes (Listed) US$50,000 on the all weather track today 29th November 2009.

Coy Cat made her run five wide on the corner from seventh position early to win the six furlongs (1200m) event in 1.10.44. A bay filly out of Shy Solana by Tank’s Prospect; Coy Cat had tasted black type success previously.

This was her fifth win from 22 career starts and took her total career earnings to approx. US$225,000.

Hold That Tiger produced another virtual stalwart Gallantin Guy for his fourth career victory at Hawthorne over 1300m on the dirt. It was a welcome return to the winner’s stall for a gelding who has overcome some injuries in the last 12 months.

Again it was a similar tale to Coy Cat - as Gallantin Guy sat back in seventh place early before launching at them 4 wide on the corner to tough out a strong ¾ length victory.

FOOTNOTE:

A very interesting situation will unveil itself in the run up to the 2012 yearling sales in Australia. Two sons of Storm Cat will have yearlings that year.

Statue Of Liberty by all reports is coming of a full book in 2009. His youngest progeny of racing age in Australia in early 2012 when this year’s matings are going to sale will be 4YO’s and at this stage he has 49 horses in that group (currently 2YO’s). His previous crop will be 7YO’s and a mere 37 have survived this category; at this point in time they are currently 3YO’s. While his star performer Mic Mac will be a 6YO and one of 74 similarly aged first crop Statue of Liberty foals. So Statue of Liberty has big gaps coming; with everything depending on the foals on the ground already.

Interestingly the analysis at this point in time suggests that Statue of Liberty has worldwide 274 runners for 126 winners, 53 placed at 46.0% winners to runners with 6 stakes winners and 8 stakes-placed horses. His close combatant in Australia as they entered stud in the same season and both are sons of Storm Cat has been Hold That Tiger. Arion figures today (same time) suggest Hold That Tiger has worldwide 303 runners for 180 winners, 49 placed at 59.4% winners to runners with 8 stakes winners and 12 stakes-placed horses.

Interestingly, Hold That Tiger has had 70 foals in his first crop followed by 59 (3YO’s), 52 (2YO’s), 82 (1YO’s) and 44 foals already returned this year of some 66 expected. So in fact while Statue of Liberty has two seasons with no runners Hold That Tiger will enjoy his biggest and third biggest crops in Australia in those two seasons. Hold That Tiger has struggled to attract the big numbers of mares this year and those people who have supported him may enjoy some rare benefits at the yearling sales in 2012 as demand for Hold That Tiger yearlings may absolutely dwarf supply.
