Swettenham stallion Hold That Tiger produced another handy horse with the win of Apprehend at Caulfield this afternoon. Trained by Tony Vasil, Apprehend had been crying out for more ground in his recent starts and today's 2000 metres really suited him. The removal of blinkers also helped, with Apprehend able to take a nice sit in the running, despite being caught three wide from his outside barrier. Apprehend ($26) won by a length from Peace Treaty ($10-$9) which nosed out Boom 'n' Zoom ($9-$12) for second by a half head. Rider Daniel Moor was content to stay wide as the pace set by Danny Nikolic on Jungle Heat was not demanding. "I think taking the blinkers off really improved his manners", Moor said. "We were three wide early and rather than come back in a slow tempo race I thought our best option was to try and sit there and end up dropping in which we did." "From the 200 he really quickened quite well."Stable foreman Trent Pennuto was relieved to see Apprehend win his third race. "It worked out well in the end", he said. "No speed mid race which didn't give the backmarkers much of a chance turning for home and burning them off when it counted." Pennuto pointed out that Apprehend had been pulling fiercely which had led to a gear change. "Track rider David Charles suggested that Apprehend would probably over race in blinkers which led to their removal today", he said. The Vasil stable will press on with Apprehend now that he has shown city winning form. "He's a tough horse and he's coped with everything so far so there's no reason why we wouldn't be pushing on at similar sort of levels", Pennuto said. "We'll try and find another three year old 2000 metre before the end of the season." Apprehend is by Hold That Tiger which is enjoying a stellar run worldwide with his progeny at present. He has had over 40 winners since the start of June.
