A scintillating win leading all the way on June 7th was yet another loud and clear signal that Romping just loves the 1400m trip at Sha Tin. After two runs at 1650m and 1600m he was freshened up with 6 weeks between runs. Back to 1400m he again returned the favour to his astute connections at good double figure odds. Romping’s time was clearly the best of the three 1400m races and even stacked up very favourably with the two 1200m race times, particularly as he was not fully extended winning by 2.5 lengths. The 2004 bay gelding from Dash For Cash’s first crop has certainly made his mark in Hong Kong. His record now stands at 16 starts for 5 wins and 3 seconds and stake earnings just shy of A$500k. Included in those stakes were winnings from Flemington and Moonee Valley before heading to Hong Kong. Romping is the third live foal from the Last Tycoon mare Romalpa who is herself a dual Melbourne metropolitan winner; her dam was the unraced Vain mare Vain Hope a daughter of Gold Coast Prime Minister’s Cup winner Hayley’s Hope. She presently has a yearling colt by Hold That Tiger and a 2YO filly by Hold That Tiger. She is still in the hands of her original owner Ken Stout. Presently, Dash For Cash has the following statistics which are extremely impressive. That first crop born in 2004 are now 4YO’s. That crop represents 100 named 4YO’s of which 92 have raced. This is a great pointer to their soundness and ability to get to the races. Presently, 59 (64.1%) are winners with 3 stakeswinners and 3 stakesplaced (ie 6.52% Stakeshorses to runners). They have won 131 races and over A$3.2m. It is probably the three Group 1 seconds of Bank Robber (AJC Epsom H., BTC Cup) and Extension of Time (MRC 1,000 Guineas) that have cost him being even more revered in breeding circles. When most stallions are struggling for 50% winners to runners in a season Dash For Cash is fairly charging along. He is in the top 20 stallions in Australia by individual winners as at June 7th on Bloodhound he is equal 17th with 68 winners for the season in Australia. He is equal with Rubiton, Lion Hunter and Bel Esprit; but importantly has a much better strike rate having had far less runners.
