It appears Mick Price has another quality up and comer in the stable if 'Our Baby Bonus's win in yesterdays Luxbet.com Maiden Plate (1000m) at Bendigo is anything to go by.

The three-year-old grey gelding by Dash For Cash could not have been more impressive crossing from the widest barrier to lead a field of nine with apparent ease before dictating terms comfortably from the lead.

Our Baby Bonus ($1.65) travelled sweetly for jockey Craig Newitt throughout and showed a devastating turn of foot upon balancing in the straight that would've left more experienced sprinters in his wake.

The quality of the win was highlighted by the performances of the runners up Royal Commands ($4.20) and Sienna Sunrise ($11) who look certain to break their maiden statuses very shortly.

Newitt always looked confident on the son of Dash For Cash only needing hands and heels riding to hold off the fast-finishing Royal Commands to win by a long head.

"I knew he was the best horse in the race so I rode him that way," said Newitt

Craig Newitt"I didn't fully extend him. I only rode him out hands and heels."

"He's the sort of horse who only does what he has to do," he added.

Despite Royal Commands late charge Newitt was never concerned by the second placegetter.

"If the other horse had've ranged up on the outside of him. I'm sure he would have fought it off. He'd had enough on the line but he has a good future."

Newitt observed that Our Baby Bonus would be better suited at races over 1400 or 1600 metres where he can be ridden quieter to fully exploit his turn of foot.

Our Baby Bonus was purchased for just $42,000 at the 2008 Inglis Autumn Yearling Sale by Price for a group of owners including AFL footballers Nick Reiwoldt and Fraser Gehrig.

Managing owner Stuart Wigney, a business partner with Reiwoldt, said the win was an exciting start for connections.

"It was very exciting," said Wigney.

"We have been very anxious as he has had a number of setbacks, trials, and even on the day the float arrived late."

Wigney said Price was going to see how the gelding pulled up before planning his next assignment.

"Mick will give him a few days to get over the run, they went pretty fast time and it was only his first start," said Wigney.

"He does think he will be city class though, so we will keep our fingers crossed."
