Capone confirmed his place as Tasmania's leading two-year-old when he cruised to victory in today's $50,000 Tasmanian Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Launceston. In winning the gelded son of Dash for Cash was able to make it three straight victories and round out the season as the region's top juvenile. Tassie's leading rider Brendon McCoull had Capone positioned behind the leaders and he came with a perfectly timed run rounding the home turn to sweep to the lead and race clear. At the post Capone ($2.90 fav) held a length and three quarter margin over Rock Jester ($36.70). Tranquil Lass ($5.50) was another neck back in third place. McCoull thinks Capone will develop into a classy three-year-old after a break. "He is a nice horse that while not overly big, he is well put together and probably going to be even better as a three-year-old," he said. Capone was purchased by senior part owner Richard Foster from the draft of Alva Stud at the 2008 Magic Millions Tasmanian Select Yearling Sale. The youngster is one of seven winners from the Sydney winning mare Early Bloom. A daughter of Tolomeo, Early Bloom is a half sister to the Group Two winner Beautiful Gem - a winner of nine races and over $710,000. Capone's sire Dash for Cash is preparing to serve another quality book of mares at Swettenham Stud this spring.
