FOALS ARE FOALS BUT SOME ARE REAL FOALS
There is no doubt the quality of foal produced at Swettenham Stud Nagambie in the last two years has improved dramatically each season. Alan Morton who has come from the Hunter Valley after 16 years in charge of Collingrove Stud near Sandy Hollow has been witness to this improvement. Alan has no doubt that the last four stallions onto the roster have been instrumental in these results.
The first crop of Kaphero foals are arriving and we are very enthusiastic as all foals to-date have been bays. The stallion is a quality type and his foals are in the same mould. Strength, quality and bone are critical in this market place and if the word athletic means anything then the colt out of the multiple stakes-placed Anna Dana (USA) for Adam Sangster is a natural. To see him galloping around the paddock when only six days old was extremely exciting and the mares family suggests he should be a racehorse as her dam is a half-sister to Street Cry and Shamardal.
The Host foals have been really stamped. Host as a son of Hussonet continues a sireline that can produce strong well built foals with a back end on them that the trainers really want. So often his chestnut foals have a better bum on them than mum and this will go along way to propelling the progeny on trainer's to buy lists.
The second crop of Soldier's Tale foals have been very good again. He is not as powerful as Host behind, but for a European runner has a very good back end and stands over a bit more ground. He looks like he will get 2YO sprinters just like his sire Stravinsky did and his first son at stud in Australia, Oratorio has done already in WA. However, the real key to these foals is they should go beyond 1200m sprints and extend out to a truly run mile and a quarter.
The Keep the Faith foals are still very athletic and have been well received in the sales rings. Importantly, they continue to develop into imposing individuals and reports from trainers lead us to expect better results now his first crop have turned 3YO.

GET INTO A 2YO BY A SWETTENHAM STALLION
In a new initiative our recent trips to the trials at various training
centre's and tracks across Victoria has uncovered that many trainers still
have some shares available to sell in now 2YO's purchased at the 2010
yearling sales.
It is important for trainers to clear the decks before the next round of
yearling sales begin in 2011 so we are keen to help trainers if we like the
horses involved and they are by our stallions. In this way we may build the
appeal of our stock for our clients who look to the sales rings to stay in
the breeding game.
So we invite trainers with shares available in 2YO's by Swettenham based stallions to contact Ian Rimington. Ian will organize a swift inspection and we can list the horse in a subsequent newsletter and even bring down interested people to see the horses as we are doing this Tuesday.
However, to launch the initiative we have focused on Cranbourne trainer Robbie Griffiths a prolific buyer of yearlings in Victoria and a great supporter of Victorian bred and Super VOBIS stock.
Robbie has a few shares available in 4 stunning Swettenham sired 2YO's:

4 STAKES RESULTS FOR HOLD THAT TIGER LAST WEEKEND
Hold That Tiger freshly arrived from another successful shuttle to the Northern hemisphere (France) has had another interesting weekend overseas.
He enjoyed a Grade 1 placing for Smiling Tiger in the 7f (1400m) Pat O'Brien Stakes at Del Mar. Posted three wide on a limb and on the pace he did not finish the race off
in his customary fashion although they ran through the first 1200m in
1.09.32; so he was working all the way. Final time was a slick 1.21.70 just
a half second outside the track record for the All Weather surface.
Hold That Tiger welcomed a new stakes winner to his growing stable when
TIGER GIRL won at Louisiana Downs in the US$50k 2YO Stakes over 1600m on
Turf. Her previous win was at 5f (1000m) so she enjoyed the step up in
distance. This became his 11th individual stakes winner.
The Grade 2 Play The King Stakes 7f (1400m) on Turf at Woodbine saw Jungle
Wave force the issue all the way. He headed the leader on the turn and was
all out to the wire before begrudgingly going down by a neck from Smokey
Fire the light weight that tracked him everywhere and came off his back in
deep stretch to get up on the line.
Two maiden winners in the US took his tally to 223 individual winners
worldwide for earnings in excess of US$12.5 million.
In Australia the gallant Apprehend showed he is back in form in the last 50m of the Listed Heatherlie Hcp 1700m. He was taking ground off rising star Moudre as he powered into third placing. Giving weight to this boom galloper and just being left a bit flat footed on the turn was indicative of a really sound winning chance next start with any appreciable step up in ground. His form since returning has been very good including a less than 3 length finish behind Shoot Out at Weight For Age.
FOOTNOTE:
One of the really great value stallion fees for 2010 is entwined in a head to head battle in Victoria.
Two stallions that went to stud in the same year overseas and then shuttled to Australia are involved in a tight struggle for supremacy as sires. However, the competition in the breeding barn has been much more lop sided.
