ACCOLADES ARE EARNT - NOT TOSSED AROUND LIKE CONFETTI

So Hay List is better than Vain.

Hmm, Vain won 12 races and in the writer's opinion Vain is clearly the greatest racehorse (sprinter) ever seen. From the day he debuted and I watched him thrash Shako arguably the fastest ever 2YO Fulham Park Plate winner over 900m at Caulfield, you just had to "dips me lid" to Vain.

He then went on to win the Maribyrnong Plate in the Spring. Spelled he returned in the Autumn to take the Merson Cooper (there was no Blue Diamond in those days), then he claimed the Sires' Produce (7f). Straight to Sydney he became the first Victorian to win the Golden Slipper (6f) defeating 7 previously unbeaten 2YO's including Special Girl. A rare hiccup after wet weather hampered his training and he was beaten a head in the AJC Sires Produce (7f) then a stunning 6 length victory in the Champagne Stakes (6f).

WEATHER ALERT - DASH FOR CASH RIPPLE WILL BUILD INTO A TSUNAMI

His 2YO crop totals 173 and this level of runners will finally give Dash For Cash the numbers to springboard an adequate challenge to his arch rival in Victoria in Bel Esprit. In fact he nearly has as many foals in this one crop as in three other normal seasons.

So it was no surprise that the first 2YO runner for the season showed that he might just be something out of the ordinary. There were big wraps that Fast Bucks had plenty of ability and he produced an absolutely barnstorming finish after being pole axed at the start by Masthead on his outside and Arctic Command on his inside.

Gerry Ryan and Kevin BamfordSWETTENHAM'S SOLID SUPPORTERS
NOW ETCHED IN TURF HISTORY FOREVER

Gerry Ryan and Kevin Bamford have successfully claimed the
150th Melbourne Cup and reached racing's holy grail. Their
beautiful stallion Americain possessed an absolutely wonderful temperament that saw him canter down to the barrier better than
any horse in the race. He never threw his head up once or
wrestled for more rein as he ambled past the hooting and
hollering crowd. It was a winning performance and stamped
him there and then as the horse to beat in the race.

ZIPPING - "THE GALLANT"

Chasing the 175th Group 1 win for horses raced or bred by Swettenham Stud the gallant war horse Zipping ran into a superstar in So You Think in the MVRC WS Cox Plate.

The tough campaigner was fresh from a Group 1 win in the 2000m VRC Turnbull Stakes again tried to make the Cox Plate a solid staying test. He was the first to go after So You Think and reaped the reward by staving off the fast finishing Whobegotyou to hold second spot.

The $440,000 second prize money in the WS Cox Plate took his earnings above $4m. Zipping has now run two seconds and a third in the last three Cox Plates; and it could well have been four Cox Plate runs in succession, but in 2006 Lloyd Williams opted for the MV Cup instead (which he won).

The 175th GROUP 1 WINNER raced or bred was not far away and came up on Sunday 31st October in France at Saint Cloud when the 2YO Colt RODERIC O'CONNOR by Galileo from Secret Garden bred by Swettenham Stud claimed the Gr. 1 Grand Criterium Stakes over 1 mile on the turf.

So low and behold who should be contesting for our 176th Group 1 winner, none other than the gallant Zipping over 3200m. He was seen valiantly steaming into 4th spot in the Melbourne Cup 2 days later. Zipping has raced in the Melbourne Cup four times in the last five years (missing last year) and Tuesday was his third 4th placing in a Melbourne Cup. He surely is a legend of the turf like Shadow King with now $765,000 of his total earnings having been realized on the first Tuesday in November.
