INGLIS EMBRACE VICTORIA AND GET JUST REWARDS
Gratifying to sit at the desk writing positive things about the Victorian Premier Sale, the market shift towards Victorian bred stallions and Sydney based Bloodstock Company William Inglis and Sons.
After two missed years the marketing focus finally swung around to feature the Victorian bred, sold and reared sprinters that have been setting the world alight. It is significant that the marketing push by William Inglis to promote the Victorian Premier Sales along those lines has coincided with some outstanding sales at the Melbourne Premier Sale in 2011, providing in my opinion evidence of resurgence in the appeal and popularity of the Victorian stallion.

STUD CHARGES
Three years is a long time in racing and more so in breeding. Therefore it came as a surprise to learn that the Swettenham Stud daily charge for agistment of a dry mare, remains at $22.00 per day including GST and the rate for a wet mare (ie one in foal or foal at foot) has stayed at $24.20 including GST, that is unchanged for three years.
Given the feeding regime employed at Swettenham Stud under the guidance of Alan Morton and the care available from a very highly regarded and professional staff, plus the presence of a 24 hour on-site veterinarian in Dr. John Hurley, it is not surprising that there are more and more breeders making Swettenham home for their mares. With over 95% on farm fertility for the second year in a row, the mares are 'pardon the pun' well served.

QUARANTINE
Overseas mares coming to Australia will be required to do a quarantine stretch after arriving in Australia. Swettenham Stud have been registered as an approved AQIS quarantine property and can take delivery of mares and let them complete their quarantine timeframe in a beautiful rural setting with the access to the 24 on-site veterinarian. All these things are a decided bonus when trying to get your imported mare ovulating for a Southern Hemisphere time cover.

EARLY BOOKINGS ST
What a difference when people get to see a few yearlings by the stallions and particularly when they are well received. Leaping to the head of the stallion bookings for 2011 already is Soldier's Tale. We haven't even set the fee yet, but they will again be very competitive. Giddy Up!

TRAINERS TAKE STOCK OF OUR TWO NEW STALLIONS
Host and Soldier's Tale yearlings have commenced being broken in and we are receiving a number of promising early reports. They have made it into some very nice stables and this is a very encouraging outcome of the sales series so far.
The Swettenham Stud stallion roster includes three stallions who have won Victorian Champion Freshman sire in their relevant years - Bianconi, Dash For Cash and Keep The Faith. We look forward to one of our new boys Host or Soldier's Tale being in the thick of the action in the coming racing season 2011 - 2012.

AUTUMN SALE YEARLINGS
Our draft at the Autumn Yearling Sale Melbourne starting 17th of April for two days is as follows. We welcome your attendance and will conduct a marquee at the sales for the first time at this sale and look forward to your attendance.
LOT 105 Hold That Tiger bay filly from Night's Upon Us.
An interesting yearling from a mare that cost the Sangster's $400k. Her foals to-date have not enjoyed any luck with broken necks and an assortment of other issues. That has been very disappointing, but Adam has persevered and this filly has such a strong topline that she should run early and looks set to change the fortunes of her dam. It is certainly her best foal yet.

YEARLINGS RETAINED SEEMS A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
Interesting reflections on our Major 2YO race the 2011 Golden Slipper:
› Five (5) of the 16 starters in the Golden Slipper were retained by their breeders.
› Has the EI affected the 2YO's on the ground? - Umm… hard to tell, BUT it is a long time since a horse got a run in the Slipper with earnings of just $29,500; and ten of the Slipper runners only boast 1 win going into the race.
› Six (6) colts and 1 gelding (plus emergency is a colt) versus 9 fillies in the Slipper.
› Only two imported stallions (not including NZ Born stallions) are represented with runners ie shuttle stallions.
› Five imported mares (not including 3 NZ bred mares) have runners in the Slipper.
