After years as a silent partner in a host of partnerships one of the truly great names in the thoroughbred world is going out on it's own and planning a solid push back to the top of the pyramid.

As part of the resurgence Collingrove Stud – established by the late Robert Sangster and Colin Hayes will from July 1st 2006 operate as Swettenham Stud following the buy out of the Hayes family by Adam Sangster.

Swettenham Stud is a name that changed the thoroughbred world as we knew it through its founder the late Robert Sangster and it is now back in full swing courtesy of his Aussie son Adam and the rest of the family in the UK. Adam is particularly keen to carry on what his father started some 50 years ago when he established the Swettenham Stud.

Swettenham Stud has bred or raced the winners of 163 Group 1 races and captured on multiple occasions some of the world’s best races, winning races in a total of 22 different countries. The honour roll reads like a who’s who of thoroughbred racing with Sadlers Wells, Storm Bird, Alleged, The Minstrel, Golden Fleece, Detroit, Law Society, El Gran Senor and Rodrigo De Triano just a few of the winners in the Northern Hemisphere. While in the Southern Hemisphere names like Marauding, Desirable, Ha Ha, Pure of Heart, Kaapstad, Midnight Fever, Universal Prince, Isca, Blackfriars and Blevic head an impressive list.

Adam Sangster was recently naturalised and is now domiciled at the showpiece operation’s Nagambie property and there is no doubt that he heads the impetus that is Swettenham Stud regaining its mantle as a leader in the Australian thoroughbred industry.

The Swettenham Stud now covers two distinct operations in two separate hemispheres. Swettenham Stud presently stands stallions Dash For Cash, Hold That Tiger, Bianconi, Court of Jewels and the highly regarded first season sire Keep The Faith at the Nagambie property in Victoria which takes advantage of the very strong Super VOBIS racing and breeding incentive program. The Hunter Valley property is very much their breeding nursery under the leadership of Alan Morton. Swettenham also own a select band of 65 plus broodmares and an extremely nice range of racing stock which will hopefully become their future breeding prospects.

The other operation is the UK based Swettenham Stud which will continue to operate from the 2500 acre training estate at Manton, Wiltshire, UK and is managed by Adam’s brothers, Guy and Ben. Swettenham Stud UK does not stand stallions preferring to leave that for the Australian operation. They do however delve very much in bloodstock and also offer to the public at large an opportunity to utilize the unique training environment at Manton under the tutelage of their fast emerging world class trainer Brian Meehan (trainer of David Junior 2006 Grade 1 Dubai Duty Free Stakes winner who was Brian’s first overseas runner since setting up at Manton).

So the scene is set. Adam a long time resident of Australia and particularly well known to the breeding fraternity is sure to make his mark.
