Swettenham Newsletter Christmas 2010
Swettenham Stud Breeding Season Message and Seasons Greeting!

This year we have enjoyed the best rainfall in the North East since our arrival on this property in 1995. The paddocks, feed and spring grass all points to good bone and well grown stock. On the back of this the yearling sales in 2011 look to offer a great opportunity for buyers to purchase with confidence in the knowledge that conditions this year above others has given young horses the best chance to prosper and develop.

All our stallions have plenty to offer and producing winners has never been an issue. When the oldest on the roster, Bianconi at 15 years old, currently sits in 6th place on the Australian Sires List by winners, then it is easy to understand why the roster has remained unchanged for the last few years, save for the introduction of Kaphero. Having said that, Swettenham Stud is always on the lookout for the next high quality stallion and our lineup will be analysed deeply over the upcoming months.

EDITORIAL

This season in particular has proved a challenging one in many respects. I applaud those people who have bred a mare in season 2010. Not because it helps Swettenham Stud or other studs, but simply because you are the lifeblood of our industry.

I have been involved in a multitude of meetings and deputations to the powers that be from Rob Hines, Bernard Saundry, to a full VRC Committee, to running our own breeders seminars across Australia. Importantly, they have all listened intently and were sympathetic to our lot.

HOST AND SOLDIER'S TALETVN ADVERTISEMENTS FOR HOST AND SOLDIER'S TALE

Over the festive season there will be a large number of
advertisements on Host and Soldier's Tale to ensure the
market place is well advised about their exceptional abilities
as Group 1 winners and racehorses in general.

We will still be continuing our sponsorship of the breeding
results after every race and those results will be courtesy
of the same two stallions, which have their first crop of
racehorses selling at the 2011 yearling sales.

SWETTENHAM SIRED YEARLINGS - AVAILABLE EARLY IN 2011

We never have a great representation of stock by our sires at Sales as so many are bred for racing by a very loyal band of breeders. However, that is slowly changing with the last 4 stallion onto the roster - Keep The Faith, Host, Soldier's Tale and Kaphero.

GET YOUR CHRISTMAS PUD

The following stock by our stallions should help finance the Christmas Turkey and Christmas Pudding. Our festive stable should include:

See You On Sunday (by KTF) for Tony Noonan won very well on debut at Cranbourne and should go on with the job. Each way if goes to town.

Dance For Cash (by DFC) trained by Terry Mathrick should go close with that run under the belt. Follow each way into second start as liked the way he toughed it out to the line.

Cash Or Glory (by DFC) trained by Steve McKinnon was very good winning on debut. Follow next start to repeat the dose. Chased like a horse who will mature into a good class galloper.

Flutoni (by BIA) was considered a very good young horse with a great turn of foot. However as he grew he just kept lengthening out. Full credit to Robbie Griffiths and the owner they took their time and he won on debut over 1400m. Watch him as he should have a better sprint on his rivals, as he gets to 1600m.

Striped (by HTT) if he runs next for trainer David Baylis will have him right and he has good improvement from his win at Morphettville.

Speech Room (by COJ) for Shane Edwards and owner Sophie Sangster should win next start as finally stretched out properly after an injury. This was an important breakthrough and now he knows he can do this pain free he will recapture his very good and Group race franked form as he goes through his classes.

He's A Hotty (by HTT) has won four in a row for Austy Coffee so we have missed the boat there, but if he comes to town keep him in the multiples as he has always shown he had good galloping ability and he is fairly flying at the moment for Jack and Austy.
