Apprentice Taylor Lovelock-Wiggins ended his three month loan spell with trainer Peter Moody a winner after Keep The Faith filly Sayahailmary won the $70,000 The Age Handicap (1400m) for three-year-old fillies at Caulfield this afternoon.
The young rider will return to his hometown of Canberra tomorrow and intends on plying his trade away from Melbourne as he anticipates opportunities will become limited for claiming apprentices over the Spring Carnival. “I like to thank Peter Moody and everyone at his stables, they’ve helped me a lot during these three months,” Lovelock-Wiggins said. “I’m going home on Sunday just to let the spring carnival kick along. “I’ll ride around the New South Wales provincial areas such as Gosford, Newcastle and Kembla Grange until the carnival here in Melbourne wraps up in November. “Peter is happy for me to come back and hopefully ride more winners,” he added. Upon returning back home, Lovelock-Wiggins will be indentured to father Peter Wiggins who trains a team of eight horses. Sayahailmary ($4-$4.60-$3.90 fav) easily led for Lovelock-Wiggins from her inside alley and kept going to comfortably defeat Speed Of Dark ($4-$6) by 1-3/4 lengths with Placement ($5-$9-$8.50) a further two lengths adrift in third. Speed Of Dark raced greenly in the straight for fellow three-kilo claiming apprentice Adam McCabe and could have challenged the winner had she raced more tractably over the concluding stages. Placement made some ground to register her second consecutive city placing after finishing second behind Lorna’s Lass at Flemington last start. Rider of eighth placegetter Dizlago ($5.50-$7.50), Dwayne Dunn, reported his mount failed to handle the Slow (7) track conditions and consequently was beaten over eight lengths from the winner. Moody’s Racing Manager Jeff O’Connor suggested Sayahailmary is likely to spend time in the spelling paddock fairly soon. “She’s come on through the bush grades and made a nice step each time,” O’Connor said. “At the end of the day, her fitness has held her in good stead today. "We'll see what's around for her but if she’s going to run beyond seven furlongs it’ll be next preparation,” he added. By Keep The Faith out of Danehill mare Danish Moon, Sayahailmary has had four starts for two wins and a second. She has won in excess of $69,000 in prizemoney.
